New Data Reveals Top Destinations for Summer 2021
Allianz Partners recently analyzed more than 985,000 flight itineraries for trips between five and eight days long this coming summer. The objective? Determine the top destinations of the season.
Allianz’s findings revealed that Orlando, Florida and Hawaii’s Maui and Honolulu are the top destinations domestically for summer, 2021 — just as they were back in 2019, before the pandemic. Hawaii’s Honolulu, Kauai and Big Island also made it into the top-10 for this summer’s top domestic destinations, clocking in at Nos. 7 and 8.
In terms of international destinations, Cancun, Mexico took the top spot, followed by San Jose del Cabo — also in Mexico — and Aruba. The remainder of 2021’s top summer destinations were all also in Mexico and the Caribbean, including locations in the Bahamas and Jamaica.

Allianz also noted that travelers are taking longer vacations, with 59% of travelers taking seven-night trips and 37% opting for six nights. That’s a stark change from 2019’s pre-pandemic levels, when four-night trips were the most popular option.
This data from Allianz is further evidence of a trend that’s been nicknamed “revenge travel” — the idea that people are looking to rebound from the pandemic by taking longer, more lavish trips on a more frequent basis.
